Gabe's to open June 27 at Pullman Square

Robert Shafer of Casper Paving in Mars paints new lines Tuesday in the parking lot of the new Gabe's store at 300 Pullman Square, the site of the former Kmart.

Gabe's will open its largest location to date in Butler June 27, according to an announcement Friday.

The Butler location, at 300 Pullman Square, will be more than 105,000 square feet. Management said will be its biggest store.

“Here at the Butler Gabe's, you will find more selection, expanded departments and more deliveries per week of amazing, unbelievable deals,” said Leigh Guldig, senior vice president of marketing for Gabe's.

The location was last used as a Kmart, which was an anchor store when Pullman Square Plaza opened in November 1993. Kmart closed its doors in the summer of 2017.

Guldig said the new store will offer great products for people on a budget.

“We also support our local community through sponsorships, product donations and other ways, whenever we can,” she said.

Gabe's will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and shoppers at the Butler location can expect great offerings on such items as face masks, baby and pet gear, cleaners and disinfectants and other products.

Guldig said that COVID-19 consciousness will extend to the store's environment too.

“All Gabe's store locations have enacted additional cleaning measures as well as policies to ensure safety and social distancing,” Guldig said.

The Butler location becomes the chain's 108th store in 13 states. The chain also plans to open seven more stores in 2020.

According to Guldig, the location will employ more than 100 people to help run the store.

“We are always hiring,” she said. “If you are looking for a great place to work, visit our new location to request an application.”

As its first day open approaches, the store will likely not have an event to mark the occasion because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“But we are thrilled to welcome new shoppers,” Guldig said. “Once it becomes safe to do so, we may hold another event next year to celebrate.”
