Ohio woman accused of assaulting mom, DUI
An Ohio woman is accused of assaulting her mother and driving drunk stemming from a call for a domestic dispute at her parents' home on Isle Road in Franklin Township, authorities said.
Candice R. Hudson, 36, of Peninsula is charged with simple assault, driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and harassment. She was also cited for five traffic violations.
State police said they were initially called around 6:35 p.m. Thursday to the home of the defendant's parents for a reported domestic incident. But while on his way, Trooper Philip Treadway learned that Hudson had also been in an earlier crash near the house.
Police suspect the woman drove her car into a ditch. She got a ride home, where she allegedly struck her mother in the chest and legs, grabbed her hair and threw her into the bushes, according to charging documents.
The victim had apparent minor injuries, including bruises on her legs.
Treadway said when he found Hudson, she appeared to be impaired. She admitted being on prescription medication, documents said. She was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which she allegedly refused.
Police said they found suspected marijuana, as well as marijuana pipes, a marijuana grinder and other contraband in her car.
Hudson is being held in the Butler County Prison, pending her release to the county probation office for pretrial supervision. She is also required to wear a Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor, an ankle bracelet that immediately alerts law enforcement and probation and parole officers when the person wearing the device consumes alcohol.
Her preliminary hearing is scheduled July 17 at the office of District Judge Bill O'Donnell in Slippery Rock.
