WASHINGTON, Pa. — Harness racing action returns to The Meadows Monday, but Slippery Rock resident Brady Brown has alredy picked up a victory since the coronavirus outbreak.
Brown won an Open Handicap race in late May at Northfield. He also finished sixth in an Open at Scioto Downs in Ohio June 5.
[naviga:h3]WPIAL to debut quarterback award[/naviga:h3]
The top quarterback among WPIAL and City League schools will receive the annual Willie Thrower Award, beginning this season.
A panel of coaches and media members will vote to determine the awardee.
Thrower, a New Kensington native, was the NFL’s first African-American quarterback. He led New Kensington to WPIAL titles in 1946 and 1947 and was part of Michigan State’s 1952 national championship team. He played for the Chicago Bears.
