Grove City College to honor grads in fall

2 homecoming events slated

The 2020 Grove City College graduates will be honored at two events in the fall during homecoming weekend.

President Paul McNulty announced that instead of the 140th commencement ceremony originally planned for this past weekend, graduates will be celebrated with a dinner and commencement at 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at the campus.

In addition, a baccalaureate service will be held Oct. 4 for the graduates.

The original events were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“When you consider all the time, dedication and cost invested in pursuit of this goal, it is certainly no exaggeration to describe it as an extraordinary accomplishment,” McNulty said. “I hope you take this time to put on your cap and the tassel, and celebrate and take a few pictures to mark this tremendous occasion in your life.”

McNulty announced the plan to students over the weekend in a video conference.

“We are looking forward to the opportunity to honor our newest members of the alumni association during their first homecoming,” said Melissa MacLeod, senior director of alumni and college relations. “The Class of 2020 deserves this unique opportunity.”

She added the college is already working with campus partners in making plans for the ceremony, and expects to communicate further details as plans become finalized.

The Class of 2020 will be the first in Grove City College history to graduate and walk in the homecoming parade as alumni in the same year.
