Engineers hired for city road design

Repairs planned for 3 avenues

The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Butler hired a local company Thursday to complete the engineering design work for reconstructing three avenues in need of repairs.

After an open bid period, the authority approved the lowest proposal from Butler-based Gateway Engineers to do the engineering design work for the reconstruction and paving of Slagle, Glenn and Standard avenues for no more than $13,500.

As part of the design work, the engineers will review existing curbs to determine whether they need to be replaced in order to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines.

Once the design work is completed, the project will be bid out for construction.

The area included in the redesign project encompasses Slagle Avenue between Hickory Street and Maple Avenue, Glenn Avenue between Center Avenue and Fairview Avenue, and Standard Avenue between Center Avenue and Brown Avenue.

The money comes from the 2019 Community Development Block Grant.

With coronavirus precautions in place, construction won't begin until at least the fall, according to members of the authority.
