Police: Woman impersonated trooper
A Butler County woman is accused of claiming to be a trooper after being pulled over by a real one in Center Township.
Michelle F. Carrier, 42, of Clay Township is facing several charges including impersonating a public servant stemming from the incident last week.
Trooper Clayton Lehmeier came upon Carrier after he stopped her May 6 on South Benbrook Road for driving a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker, police said. But she allegedly refused to provide her license, registration and insurance information.
“The driver then identified herself as a State Trooper with 43 credits in the State Police,” according to Lehmeier's affidavit.
Carrier also told the officer, police said, “I'm five classes from a state cop and legally I am allowed to be a state cop.”
Lehmeier said he asked her to get out of the vehicle after she still would not provide requested identification information.
According to police, when they tried to place her in handcuffs she resisted and a brief struggle ensued in the middle of the road.
District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Carrier on misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment, impersonating a public servant, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
She also was cited for driving a vehicle without insurance and without valid inspection, and failing to carry both her driver's license and vehicle registration. She is free on $5,000 unsecured bail.
Her preliminary hearing is set June 16. Online court records did not indicate if she has an attorney. She could not be reached for comment.
