Looking for light at the end of the tunnel

Pastor Dave Fisher

Is there light at the end of the tunnel?

We are trusting God that it will not be long before there will be some kind of accommodations made for churches to meet for worship and fellowship.

In the Apostle Peter's first letter to God's people he begins by enumerating blessings that they have because of His “abundant mercy.” Then in verse 6 he says, “Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations.”

The word “temptations” includes the whole host of problems that anyone experiences and certainly should resonate with all of us because of what we are going though with COVID-19, as individuals and as a “church.”

For many in the “at risk” category it has meant isolation from society.

God created man and in the very beginning we read “... the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” (Genesis 2:18)

We need the help of others too. All throughout the Bible there are indications that God endorsed group fellowship and worship.

However, it is possible to have a relationship with the Lord when we are not able to be with others. Our great example, Jesus, prayed alone.

I'm sure that those, including Peter, Paul and others who spent time in prison, alone, used their time wisely for the glory of God. Some of our New Testament was penned from prison and Pilgrim's Progress was written by John Bunyan while he was in jail. You could read what they wrote.

Verse 7 puts all the difficulties that we face into the light of what God is doing.

Concerning trials, he says they are “much more precious than of gold that perisheth.” Most people would not think that trials are more valuable than wealth, however James 1:2-4 says they can bring patience.

Has the length of this pandemic tried your faith? Are you anxious to get it over with?

Answer: I am, but maybe God's teaching me (or you) to wait on His good time.

Is there some “perfect work” He wants to do?

Faith in Christ's death, burial and Resurrection has led me to salvation (verse 9), but do I need to “Draw nigh to God?” (James 4:8)

Let's pray for Revival, and wait for “the Light of the world” to shine.
