Transit authority rents more space for distancing

The Butler Transit Authority will rent a new office to give two of its employees more space to practice physical distancing.

The new office will be next to the terminal on West New Castle Street where tickets are sold and bus departures are announced, according to John Paul, the authority's executive director.

The space will provide offices for the manager of MV Transportation, the contractor the authority uses to employ bus drivers, and the safety manager.

They now share a small office space on Hollywood Drive with Paul and other authority employees.

The move, expected June 1, will allow the managers to practice physical distancing while allowing them to view bus drivers and transit operations.

“They're just jammed and crammed in there,” Paul said.

“So it will be good to get them in a bigger space, providing better connectivity between drivers and managers,” he said.

Paul said the authority will rent the space for $500 a month from Joe Gray Rentals.

The deal is through June 30.

A three-year lease with a 3 percent annual increase will follow.
