With the coronavirus pandemic putting prom and graduation in limbo and sending students home to complete their academic year, the Moniteau School District administration has launched a plan to honor its seniors.

“We wanted to do something,” said Moniteau athletic director Stoughton. “We wanted to do something to remember these seniors. We feel for them.”

Stoughton, high school principal Lance Fox, assistant principal Aubrie Schnelle and superintendent Thomas Samonsky have been brainstorming plans for several weeks to give the 88 seniors at Moniteau at least a taste of normalcy with prom, commencement and a senior recognition night.

Fox detailed the plans at the Moniteau School Board meeting Monday night.

Fox said the date of the senior recognition night — May 8 — is an important one. It's the night the school had originally scheduled for its prom.

“Mr. Stoughton has been instrumental,” Fox said. “Every student's picture and name and the year 2020 will be on signs placed around the building.”

Stoughton said students will not be permitted to leave their vehicles as they circle the school.

"Everything is being done within the guidelines of social distancing," Fox said.
