Due to the financial impacts of the coronavirus, delaying the penalty period for county property tax payments will be considered at the upcoming county commissioners meeting.

A proposed resolution, which is permissible under state Senate Act 841, would extend the deadline to pay county taxes at face value from June 30 to November 30. The 10 percent penalty phase would be extended until December 2020.

The April 30 deadline to pay taxes at the discounted rate would not be extended.

The resolution, if passed by the commissioners, would only be in effect for 2020 property taxes.

The commissioners will meet at 10 a.m. April 29 in the county government center.
