Dr. Thomas Muzzonigro, an orthopedic surgeon with Tri Rivers Musculoskeltal Centers in Butler, was recently named chairman of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ board of councilors.

Muzzonigro specializes in hip and knee reconstruction and practices at Tri Rivers Musculoskeletal Centers, which has six offices in Butler and Allegheny counties. He serves as the director of medical education and is the medical director of orthopedics and rehabilitation at Butler Health System.

The board, based in Rosemont, Ill., consists of more than 100 members elected by state and regional orthopedic societies including Puerto Rico, the U.S. military, Canada and four regional societies. It serves as an advisory body to various American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ leadership groups.

Muzzonigro received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed his internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

He also serves as a lead orthopedic surgeon for Operation Walk Pittsburgh, a volunteer organization dedicated to assisting patients in need across Central America.

Muzzonigro also served on the academy’s Communications Cabinet and is the past president of the Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society.

Add Opendoor to the growing list of residential sales firms that is cutting staff. The California-based property company is letting go 35 percent of its agents because of slumping sales caused by the pandemic.

“COVID-19 has had an unforeseen impact on public health, the U.S. economy and housing,” said CEO Eric Wu.“Given the shelter-in-place guidelines, we’ve seen declines in the number of people buying, selling and moving during this time of uncertainty.”
