Robb to receive Community Cornerstone Award
Mike Robb has been selected as the recipient of the fourth Jean B. Purvis Community Cornerstone Award honoring those who make significant contributions to Butler County.
With more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, Robb holds a multitude of roles in and around Butler County.
Since 2005, he has served as president and CEO for the Center for Community Resources. Additionally, he is also executive director of Alliance for Nonprofit Resources, the Nonprofit Development Corporation and Community Partnership.
Robb was originally scheduled to receive the award April 30, but administrators with the Jean B. Purvis Community Health Center had to reschedule the award to June 26 due to the coronavirus-related restrictions on gatherings.
The cornerstone award is typically given in June but was pushed up to April, according to Jim Cunningham, director of development at the center at 103 Bonnie Drive. Cunningham said he thought holding it in April would free up time for other events in June.
Cunningham hopes that the award dinner at Butler Country Club will not need to be rescheduled because it serves as one of the organization’s main fundraisers.
“At a time when services are needed most, we’re facing cutbacks,” Cunningham said.
Statewide influence
Robb’s work extends past county lines, as he is a member of the Criminal Justice Advisory Board and the Hearing and Deaf Services for Allegheny and Westmoreland counties.
All of these roles puts him in charge of 600 staff members and 59 programs throughout the state.
The Center for Community Resources helps county residents and their families seeking information and referrals for various human service needs essential for learning, working, and living in the community.
The father of four holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and philosophy from John Carroll University and a Master of Arts degree in psychology and counseling from Slippery Rock University.
He was awarded the Pittsburgh Business Time’s Most Admired CEO Award in 2016, as well as the Smart Business Greater Pittsburgh Smart 50 Award in 2014, and the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia in 2012.
Robb also coaches soccer at Knoch Area High School.
Center’s mission
The health center is a nonprofit, community-based volunteer organization established to provide primary health care, dental care, behavioral health care and health and wellness education to individuals who have no or limited health benefits and do not qualify for other services.
It is named after Jean Purvis, who helped establish the Community Health Clinic of Butler County, which is now known as the Jean B. Purvis Community Health Center of Butler County, in 2008, and the Visiting Nurses Association of Butler County in the mid-1960s. She was also a decades-long board member of the BC3 Education Foundation.
The award in her name celebrates those who, like Robb, improved Butler County through their time, actions, talents and dedication.
Last year’s recipient was Nick Neupauer, president of Butler County Community College.
The Cornerstone Award will be presented June 26 at a dinner at Butler Country Club. The cost is $125 per person. To attend, contact Jim Cunningham at 724-841-0980, Ext. 101, or jcunningham@butlerhealthclinic.org.
