BEHIND THESE MASKS

Jeanne Ramelli / Hutchinson Dry Cleaners

Jeanne Ramelli, business operations manager at Armstrong Comfort Solutions for the past five years, has been starting her day at 3:30 a.m. to make masks to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

In March, a friendwho is also a nurse, asked Ramelli if she could make a mask for her to wear in public. Having sewed since high school, Ramelli obliged and soon was filling requests from health care workers.

She soon recruited a supply chain with friends seeking out ¼-inch elastic and dropping them on her porch. Recently, Jack Hutchinson, owner of Hutchinson Dry Cleaners, donated two commercial-size spools of elastic.Ramelli works on masks every morning before she begins her 7:30 a.m. shift at Armstrong. Then, she uses her lunch break to sew more and continues after dinner with her family in the evening. She made and distributed 400 masks to individuals in need and organizations. Among those receiving free masks are Sunnyview and Quality of Life Services nursing facilities, Grove City Health Care and Butler Health System'sinpatient mental health services.“When I think about all the medical professionals risking their own well-being, and the sacrifices they are making to serve the public, I wanted to give back. It is the right thing to do,” Ramelli said.To donate supplies to help make the masks, visit her Facebook page: Facebook/jeannelenziramelli.
