New roles, new school
Maison Frank is looking forward to chasing down quarterbacks instead of snapping the football to one.
Meanwhile, Scott Fraser is looking forward to putting his height and athleticism to work on the offensive side of the ball at the next level.
Frank, a senior center/linebacker, and Fraser, a senior wide receiver/safety, will move on from the Knoch football team to Grove City College next season.
Both recently committed to the school.
“I've been playing football for 11 years and I've played center all 11 years — I was a little chunkier when I started playing,” Frank said. “I'll miss it, but I kind of had my fill of it for 11 years.”
Frank figures to be an inside linebacker for the Wolverines.
At 5-foot-11 and 185-pounds, Frank fits the bill for what the Grove City College football team is looking for in a middle linebacker.
The Wolverines use three inside backers in their defense.
“That was 100 percent one of the main reasons why I wanted to go there,” Frank said.
Frank was also looking at Washington & Jefferson, but Grove City was always his top choice.
Frank isn't sure what he wants to study, but is leaning toward business.
“Another main reason I wanted to go to Grove City is the education,” Frank said. “It was just a good fit.”
The same was true of Fraser, who will study mechanical engineering at Grove City.
He had other schools interested in him as well, but none came close to challenging Grove City.“Even without sports, I was looking at Grove City as a school,” Fraser said.Fraser also fits the Wolverine mold as a receiver. At 6-4 and 200 pounds, Fraser will be a big, athletic target on the outside.Grove City's two leading receivers last season were 6-2.Fraser didn't have much opportunity to display his receiving skills in Knoch's triple-option offense. He had 18 receptions for 252 yards in his senior season with the Knights. He caught seven passes for 94 yards and a touchdown against Freeport in the season finale.“I'm excited to get a chance to play with a new group of guys,” Fraser said. “I'm excited to get the chance to catch the football. Our offense didn't really throw the ball a lot.”Knoch head football coach Brandon Mowry said he's sure Frank and Fraser can make an impact at Grove City. The Wolverines have seen a resurgence in the last two seasons. After three consecutive winless campaigns, the Wolverines went 4-6 in 2017, 8-3 with the first postseason win in the 12-year history of the program in 2018, and 9-2 with another Eastern College Athletic Conference James Lynah Bowl victory last season.“They're both smart kids; they have GPAs close to 4.0,” Mowry said. “They're real bright. They're a perfect fit there and they'll help them. That's a program that's really turned it around.”
