16 new cases confirmed in Pennsylvania
The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Sunday confirmed 16 additional positive cases of the novel coronavirus 2019, the majority in the Philadelphia area and one more in Western Pennsylvania’s Allegheny County, which saw its first two cases earlier in the weekend.
Health officials said all of the people affected were either in isolation at home or being treated at hospitals. The new cases bring the statewide total to 63 cases. Of 446 patients tested or being tested, 205 have tested negative and 63 cases have been confirmed.
Most of the state’s cases of positive tests are in eastern Pennsylvania. Hardest hit is Montgomery County, with 24 cases. The confirmed cases largely have been traced back to contact with COVID-19 in another state or country. Most infected people are at home in isolation, officials say; a few are hospitalized.
For most people, the new coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death.
The vast majority of people recover.
