SR grad Mineo strong in relief

CARY, N.C. — Slippery Rock High School graduate Ricky Mineo threw 2.1 scoreless innings and struck out five Sunday in closing out Slippery Rock University’s 9-4 baseball victory over Dominican.

Tanner Esposito got the win on the mound for The Rock (6-2).

Abraham Mow, Jon Kozarian, Alex Robenolt and Luke Trueman all had two hits for SRU. Mow had two RBI and a triple.

The Rock split two games Saturday, defeating Walsh 5-1 and losing a 5-2 decision to Saint Rose. Robenolt racked up four hits in that twinbill.

Andy McClymonmds tossed five scoreless innings to get the Rock win Saturday.

SRU returns to action Wednesday, hosting Kutzrown for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Ross Memorial Park in Washington, Pa.

Softball

The Rock split two games Sunday, defeating American International 7-1 and losing to Upper Iowa, 5-1.

Winning pitcher Chloe Sharman took advantage of a six-run second inning for the win. Alex Guglielmo and Aubrey Allen both had two RBI and Anna Villies had three hits in the twinbill.

SRU also split two games Saturday, blanking Findlay 5-0 and losing to Ohio Dominican, 5-1.

Becca Roesch hit two homers and collected five RBI. Camie Shumaker was the winning pitcher against Findlay, adding two hits at the plate.
