Freeport, Butler bowlers move on

Freeport's Mark Livingston reached the stepladder semifinals and Julia Cummings the finals in the Western Regional Singles Bowling Championships Friday at North Versailles Bowl.

Livingston lost to eventual regional boys singles champion CJ Turek of Norwin 229-214 in the semifinal round. Turek defeated Adam Scruci of Blackhawk 245-199 to win the regional.

Cummings defeated Mattie Mae White of Greensburg 247-162 in the girls semifinals. She bowled a 201 in the finals, but lost by tiebreaker to champion Johnna Hill of Woodland Hills.

Livingston placed 11th in the boys overall regional standings with a 1,000-series for five games. He rolled games of 243, 178, 214, 214 and 151. Cummings placed second in the girls overall standings with a 1,024, rolling games of 214, 217, 199, 222 and 172.

Butler's Chris Huff placed third in the boys standings with a 1,083, rolling games of 216, 212, 178, 244 and 233. The Golden Tornado's Rachael Blose was ninth in the girls standings with a 933, rolling games of 196, 190, 189, 210 and 148.

All four bowlers will compete in this week's state singles tourney, also at North Versailles.
