WPIAL suspends Carmody for one game
The WPIAL has suspended Mars basketball player, Michael Carmody, for one game according to Scott Heinauer, athletic director at Mars Area School District.
Heinauer said the school district received word of the decision in an email received from the WPIAL Thursday morning sent to the Mars High School principal.
"It is what it is, it's a one-game suspension, " Heinaeur said. He declined to comment further.
Michael Carmody was called for an intentional foul in the third quarter of Friday night's WPIAL 5A championship game. He also questioned an official on the court and kicked a basketball when no foul was called on the game-ending play of the Planets' 52-51 loss to Laurel Highlands.
Originally, Carmody was facing a two-game suspension.
"We are not going to appeal to the state, file an injunction, anything like that, " said Mars coach Rob Carmody, Michael's father. "We just wanted to be heard. The decision has been made and that's that.
"Four seconds won't define who he is. That's what this is about ... Four seconds at the end of a game. Michael's emotions got the best of him and he apologized for that."
