SRU women fall short of tourney
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University’s women’s basketball season ended Saturday with a 75-65 loss to Mercyhurst at Morrow Field House.
The Rock (8-20, 6-16) fell short of qualifying for the PSAC Tournament.
Karns City graduate LeeAnn Gibson was among four seniors playing her last game for SRU. She scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds Saturday and ended her career ranked No. 4 on The Rock’s all-time offensive rebounding list.
Gibson is one of 17 players in program history to score 500 points and grab 500 rebounds in a career.
Brooke Hinderliter scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds. She leaves as the No. 2 all-time scorer in program history and its leader in free throws made, games started and games played. Daeja Quick had 15 points, Madison Johnson 13 points and six rebounds.
Mercyhurst (8-20, 8-14) also failed to make the conference tournament.
Mercyhurst 75, SRU (men) 69 — The Lakers (19-7, 17-5) ended SRU’s four-game winning streak. The Rock (15-13, 11-11) will play at Pitt-Johnstown Tuesday night in PSAC Tournament action.
Micah Till scored 23 points, grabbed six rebounds and had three steals in the loss. He is SRU’s fourth-leading all-time scorer with 1,483 points.
Jared Armstrong had 14 points, five rebounds and four assists, Lashon Lindsey 10 points and five rebounds.
