KC drama club ventures 'Into the Woods'

“Into the Woods” actors, from left, Brayden Edwards (the baker), Clare Bishop (the baker's wife) and Lilli Martin (Red Riding Hood) rehearse a scene from the Karns City High School musical. The show will be performed March 5 though 7.

KARNS CITY — The Karns City High School Drama Club will present the musical “Into the Woods” at 7:30 p.m. March 5, 6 and 7 and a matinee at 2 p.m. March 7 in the high school auditorium.

Tickets are $9 in advance or $10 at the door. Tickets are available at the high school.

The show is directed by Beth Ackelson. Alison Carey is the director of music, and Meghan Haskins is the choreographer.

Kim Patsy, Sara Ellenberger and Deb Bossinger are assistants to the director.

Courtney McGrady and Angelina Craig are stage managers, and Eddie Craig, Jeff Bly and George Beck are set designers.

Kim Patsy is the costume coordinator.

Amy Parker, Patrick Parker and Legacy Young are in charge of lighting, and Jenny Martin and Shawn Bossinger are in charge of sound. Bobbie Taylor is the hair/makeup coordinator.

Be careful what you wish for as Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s cockeyed fairy tale comes to life in this adaptation of their Tony Award-winning musical.

“Into the Woods” features all of your favorite characters — Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch — in this lyrically rich retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables.

The musical centers on a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse, and wind up changed forever.
