Butler boys track wins TSTCA title

EDINBORO — The Butler boys won the TSTCA Championship meet Saturday at Edinboro University. The girls placed fifth.

There were 77 total schools attending the meet. The Butler 4x800 relay team of Lucas Slear, Ryder Kriley, Alex Karenbauer and Skyler Vavro set the standard for the day with a victory in the championship's opening event. Guinness Brown added a second in the 400 and fourth in the 200.

Tristan McGarrah vaulted over 14-1 for second place and also over the state championship qualifying standard. The 4x200 relay team of Brown, Isaiah Seybert, Braydon Young and Byron Manchester placed second and then Brown, Seybert and Manchester teamed with Karenbauer for second place in the 4x400 relay.

The girls 4x200 relay of Samantha Penrod, Gabby Boden, Alli Morrow and Anna Baxter placed second with a state qualifying time of 1:47.29. And the 4x400 relay team of Taylor Timmons, Emma Lehman, Chelsey Kabel and Baxter placed third as did the 4x800 relay team of Jen Cichra, Autumn Pettinato, Krislyn Green and Kabel.

In the 3,000 meters, sophmore Jen Cichra broke the school record with a time of 10:57.68, breaking the record Pettinato set last week at 11:01.33.

The PA Indoor Track & Field State Championships is the final meet of the indoor season. It is March 1 at Penn State University. Butler placers in the meet follow:

DivingSeneca Valley will send three of its divers to the PIAA championship meet next month at Bucknell University.In Saturday's WPIAL Class 3A boys competition at North Allegheny High School, juniors Trevor Elliott and Matthew Laslavic placed second and fifth, respectively.Elliott earned a score of 424.45 and Laslavic a 391.60.Fox Chapel's David Manelis won the district crown with a score of 524.90.In the girls event, SV senior Kenzie Clark finished in fourth place thanks to a 452.95.With her 531.30, North Allegheny freshman Christina Shi won the title.Butler senior Paige Williams earned a medal by placing seventh (387.30).The top five divers in both boys and girls move on to the state competition.

WrestlingSlippery Rock senior Vito Pilosi will enter this week's Class AA Northwest Regional competition as the runner-up from District 10.Pilosi dropped a 6-1 decision to Reynolds' Bryce McCloskey in the 182-pound title bout at Sharon High School.Leading up to the championship encounter, Pilosi earned pins against General McLane's Shamus Ford and Titusville's Levi Nosko before taking a 1-0 decision over Corry's Matt Petrilla in the semifinals.The Northwest Regional is scheduled Friday and Saturday at Sharon High School.
