Succop Nature Park, 185 W. Airport Road, Penn Township, hosts Birds and More nature walks at 9 a.m. Thursdays. The newly renovated T.W. Phillips Barn features a WindStax turbine that supplies electricity to the building, a nature store, classroom space, a large upstairs area that can be used for programs or rentals, and numerous bathrooms. Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, Brady Township, plans the Great Backyard Bird Count for Friday through Monday. The George Washington/Cherry Pie Hikes will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 22, commemorating George Washington’s birthday and the Virginia Colony mission demanding French withdrawal from British territory that precipitated the French and Indian/Seven Years War. The event is free, although a $3 per person donation is encouraged for participation in the guided hikes/walks. Reservations are required for hikes and nature walks by Feb. 21. PA Fish & Boat Commission plans a PA Basic Boating Course from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Unionville Fire Hall, 102 Mahood Road. The course is free. Donations to Unionville Volunteer Fire Company will be appreciated. A check or money order, payable to the PFBC, in the amount of $10, is necessary to cover the cost of the actual certification card.
