Butler boys 5th in WPIBL

Moniteau girls get past Redbank at home, 57-47

Butler's boys bowling team tied for fifth Wednesday at the WPIBL Team Championships held at Nesbits Lanes.

The Golden Tornado rolled a team score of 2,464 in tying Plum. Central Catholic won the title with a 2,865, 138 pins better than runner-up Norwin. Hempfield finished third, Franklin Regional fourth.

Central defeated Hempfield 2-1 in the best-of-three championship final.

Nathan Kniess led Butler with a 228 game and 582 series. His series was seventh-highest of the day.Rocco Rice rolled a 192-500 and Chris Huff had a 192 game.

Because Butler won its section title, the Tornado earned an automatic berth in the regional March 7 at North Versailles.

Butler's girls compete in the WPIBL Chanmpionships Thursday at Princess Lanes.

Girls Basketball

Kristin Auvil scored 18 points and Aslyn Pry added 17 points and 22 rebounds as Moniteau closed the regular season with a 57-47 home win over Redbank Valley.

Auvil also had four blocked shots for the Warriors (11-11), who will play Brookville in the District 9 Class 3A championship game Feb. 27.

Wrestling

Butler completed its regular season with a 48-28 victory at Bethel Park. The Golden Tornado were 17-6 in dual matches this season.

Clayton Dressler, Colton Spohn, Nate McMaster, Steven Green, Nate McDonald and Cooper Baxter had pins for the Golden Tornado, who will compete in the individual section tourney Feb. 22 at Fox Chapel.
