At Penn Christian Academy, love is a yearlong lesson.

“Throughout the whole school year, teachers and students are finding ways to Love Out Loud,” said Angie Gillis, assistant administrator at the school at 199 Airport Road.

The Love Out Loud program reflects the theme verse chosen for this school year — Luke 10:27: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and love your neighbor as yourself.”

“We are seeking ways to show we love God and love others,” Gillis said.

For Valentine's Day, first- grade students in Christine Creely's class shared Bible verses with each other about love and made love bugs that were mounted on a “God's Little Love Bugs” bulletin board.

Tykes Preschool classmates, with teachers Patt Saeler and Heidi Mueller, made handprint hearts and individual handprint hearts as they learned about loving one another.The lesson is all about love. “Love one another the way God loves us,” Gillis said. “He loved us first. We want to share that love with others at school and in the community.In December, preschoolers filled stockings for the Hang Tough: Stockings Stuffed with Love & Care, a program that provides gifts for cancer patients.Preschoolers recently collected donations for the Baby Bottle Campaign for Life Choices. Middle schoolers will have a day of serving in Butler on Friday.The school also plans to honor the students' pastors with a Pastor Appreciation Day on Feb. 20.
