SRU dancers stage 2 shows at Succop
The dance concert Sunday at the Succop Theater will feature three county residents as part of Slippery Rock University Dance Theatre’s “State of Being.”
Performances will be offered at 2 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the theater on the Butler County Community College campus.
This show highlights work by SRU dance majors, department of dance faculty member Lindsay Fisher Viatori, guest artists Grady Macleod Bowman and Bill Evans, and modern dance icon Martha Graham.
Performers will include Hannah Corey, a junior dual major in exercise science and dance from Sarver; Brenna Kloes, a dual major in early childhood and special education and dance from Sarver; and Mollie Sweeney, a senior dual major in early childhood and special education and dance from Freeport.
Student dances for the concert were chosen by Ursula Payne, professor of dance and chairwoman of SRU’s dance department who also serves as artistic director for the show. Once approved by Payne, students showcased their choreographed works for other students who then auditioned to perform the selected pieces.
In total, the event will feature 22 dances and a film, with 12 pieces performed at each show thereby providing audiences with a completely different experience each time.
There will be solos, duets and group dances presenting modern, contemporary and other forms of dance set to a wide range of music.
Tickets are $15 and are available in advance at the Smith Student Center Information Desk, by phone at 724-738-4926 or at the door.
