Holloway hits 1,000 in victory

Gets milestone in Yellowjacket win; Moniteau downs KC

Melaina Dezort scored 24 points and Harley Holloway reached 1,000 points in her career as the Freeport girls basketball team downed Fox Chapel 59-54 Tuesday night.

Samantha Clark also scored 11 for the Yellowjackets (14-6).

Holloway came into the game against the Foxes needing 11 points to reach the milestone. She scored 11.

Holloway, a senior, spent her first two seasons at Kiski Area.

Hockey

Brody Simko scored the game-tying goal with 2:03 left in regulation and Troy Gilliland scored the game-winner in overtime as Butler stunned Mt. Lebanon, 4-3, recently at the Blue Devils' rink.

Trey Gilliland and Brayden Povlick assisted on the tying goal as Povlick intercepted a pass to begin the play. Ben Thrash and Blake Sinicki assisted on the winning goal.

Thrash and Simko also scored for the Golden Tornado. Connor Strobel stopped 36 of the 39 shots he faced in goal.

Butler hosts Pine-Richland at 9:10 p.m. Monday at the Frozen Pond.

In other action:

Butler's junior varsity defeated Seneca Valley, 3-2, as Parker Worsley scored a goal and Colton Gregory found the net twice.

Alec Malichky and Jaxon Read scored for Seneca Valley. Butler goalie Hayden Wheeler stopped 21 shots while SV netminder Casey Frank stopped 21.

Butler's JV closes the regular season at 9:40 p.m. Friday against Mars at the Baierl Ice Complex.
