Show highlights African cultures
Cirque Zuma Zuma will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Smith Student Center Ballroom at Slippery Rock University.
The circus troupe, which has been described as the ultimate African circus and an African-style Cirque du Soleil, is performing as part of the university’s Performing Arts and Lecture Series.
Nonstop action features virtuoso performers who showcase African cultures through dance, acrobatics, costumes and live music.
These include Egyptian limbo dances, South African gumboot dances, Gabonese tumbling, and feats of South African contortionism.
General admission tickets are $22 for adults; $20 for senior citizens age 62 and older; $18 for youths 17 and younger; and $8 for SRU students.
More information on the series can be found at www.sru.edu/pas. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling 724-738-2616.
The performing arts series concludes on March 21 with superstar vocalist Maureen McGovern.
The series this academic year has also included free lectures by nationally renowned journalists. Still to come is “An Evening with Soledad O’Brien: Her Life Stories” at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18 in the Smith Student Center Ballroom.
