Rock swept by Gannon
SLIPPERY ROCK — Gannon used torrid shooting in the second half to wipe out an eight-point deficit at the break and defeat Slippery Rock, 69-49, Wednesday night in PSAC West men’s basketball play at Morrow Field House.
SRU (10-10, 6-8) led 27-19 at the half before the visiting Golden Knights (9-9, 8-6) shot 61 percent from the floor and canned 16 of 17 free throws in the second half.
Matt Johnson led Gannon with 20 points.
Will Bounds scored a career-high 17 points for SRU and Deontae Roberson added 10 points and nine rebounds. Will Robinson Jr. was held to eight points and Micah Till six.
Gannon 69, SRU 66 — The Rock (5-15, 3-11) fell short in their upset bid when Brooke Hinderliter’s attempted game-tying trey in the final seconds was off the mark.
Hinderliter led four Rock players in double figures with 19 points. Daeja Quick had 13 points and six assists, Madison Johnson 12 points and Karns City graduate LeeAnn Gibson 10.
Tori Obenrader and Chelsea Rourke both had 15 points and eight rebounds for Gannon (15-4, 11-2).
Both SRU teams travel to California (Pa.) for games Saturday afternoon.
