Tip leads to arrest, alleged drug seizure
SUMMIT TWP — An anonymous tip led to the arrest of a Washington County man and the seizure of suspected drugs, including about an ounce of methamphetamine and more than 100 ecstasy pills, and contraband at a township trailer home.
State police said Aaron M. Amuso, 30, of Canonsburg, was visiting the home of a friend when troopers came knocking Tuesday afternoon. He was also allegedly carrying nearly $1,200 in currency.
Amuso was later arraigned on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He is in the Butler County Prison on $35,000 bond.
Investigators said the arrest followed a tip that came into the police vice unit claiming the defendant was at the mobile home, located in a trailer park on Kilroy Lane, and he was in possession of “a large quantity” of meth and ecstasy.
The tip was passed on to patrol officers, police said, who went to the home around 3 p.m. with a criminal investigator. The homeowner gave police his consent to search the residence.
Police found Amuso in the bathroom, Cpl. Michael Lewis said. In the garbage can in the bathroom, police allegedly seized a Ziploc bag and two plastic bags containing suspected meth totaling around an ounce.
Also allegedly found in the can was a pill bottle with 127 suspected ecstasy pills. Ecstasy is a synthetic, psychoactive drug with hallucinogenic effects.
Additionally, Lewis said, police seized three glass jars containing unknown substances that possibly included meth oil and LSD, and a drug-smoking pipe.
Other suspected evidence belonging to Amuso, police said, was a metal container with 17 unknown orange pills. In his wallet was $1,170 and a list of drug-related transactions.
The suspected drugs, police noted, will be sent to the crime lab for analysis.
According to investigators, the defendant claimed he took a bus from Washington County to Butler, where he then walked to the friend's home in Summit Township. Police said the homeowner is not expected to be charged at this time.
Amuso's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 28 at the office of District Judge Lewis Stoughton in Chicora. Online court records did not list an attorney for Amuso.
