Rainey 70-foot shot at buzzer stuns KC, 64-61

Caden Rainey sank a desperate heave from 70 feet at the end of overtime to give Union's boys basketball team a 64-61 victory over visiting Karns City Wednesday night.

The Gremlins had possession and were looking for their own late score when Rainey stole the ball and put up his dramatic shot before the buzzer. He finished the game with a team-high 24 points while teammate Luke Bowser scored 12 for Union (6-4).

Chase Beighley continued his impressive junior campaign with 31 points for the Gremlins (6-4). Nathan Waltman tallied 10 points and 15 rebounds and Micah Rupp brought down 10 boards.

A-C Valley 69, Redbank Valley 52 — The Falcons overwhelmed the visiting Bulldogs for their fifth straight win.

Levi Orton led the way with 21 points, 17 rebounds and five assists. Eli Penny added 17 points, seven rebounds, five steals and five assists.

Eddie Stevanus managed a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Falcons (8-2), who led by 33 points in the fourth quarter.

Both Butler teams remained undefeated (5-0) with wins over Shaler at Perry Park Lanes.The Golden Tornado girls took down the Titans, 5-2. After losing the opening game, Butler won the next two.Rachael Blose led Butler with a 556 series and a high game of 209. Reegan Malis contributed a 518 series and Madison Weiland rolled a single 195.Chris Huff led Butler's boys to a 7-0 win with a 622 series and high game of 228.Blaine Hooks' 575 series featured a pair of 202 games and Rocco Rice added a 206.Butler will face North Allegheny in a showdown of unbeatens Monday at Family Bowlaway.Freeport splits with Apollo-Ridge — The Yellowjacket girls swept Apollo-Ridge, 7-0, while Freeport's boys suffered a sweep at the hands of the Vikings.In the girls' competition, Julia Cummings rolled single games of 224, 202 and 189 for a 615 series for Freeport. Amber Cepec added a game of 184.Despite losing the boys' match, Freeport received a 661 series from Mark Livingston, including a high game of 246.Blake Olson tallied a game of 204 and a series of 533 in the loss.
