Cal downs SRU in wild game
SLIPPERY ROCK — Brent Pegram's floater off the glass as time expired capped a furious California (Pa.) comeback and a 94-93 men's basketball victory over Slippery Rock University Monday night at Morrow Field House.
The win gave the Vulcans (8-5, 4-3) their first win at Morrow Field House since 2010. SRU (6-7, 2-5) had won 16 of the previous 17 meetings between the teams.
The Rock had a 13-point lead with 3:40 to play before California rallied to grab the lead. SRU regained the advantage at 93-92 on two two Donovan Walker free throws with four seconds left.
Pegram drove the length of the floor for the winning bucket. He led the Vulcans with 30 points.
Jared Armstrong paced The Rock with 26 points. Deontae Robertson added 20 points and three blocked shots while Will Robinson Jr. scored 17 points and Micah Till 12.
The Rock slipped to 3-10, 1-6 with the loss. The defeat was SRU’s eighth by nine points or fewer this season.Brooke Hinderliter scored 17 points for SRU, adding nine rebounds and three assists. Daeja Quick had 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists, Karns City graduate LeeAnn Gibson nine points and seven rebounds.Monica Burns scored 25 points for the Vulcans (11-2, 5-2).Both SRU teams host Indiana (Pa.) Wednesday night at Morrow Field House. The women’s game is at 5:30 p.m., men’s game at 7:30 p.m.
