Accidents occur after snow starts falling on New Year's Eve

At least one person was injured in a two-vehicle accident in the area of 1620 Evans City Road in Forward Township at 2:55 p.m. Tuesday.

At least one person was injured in a two-vehicle accident in Forward Township and power was knocked out to several hundred residents following a separate accident in Summit Township on slushy roads Tuesday afternoon.

Both vehicles involved in the accident in the area of 1620 Evans City Road in Forward Township at 2:55 p.m. appeared to be heavily damaged and at least one person was taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital.

Traffic was restricted to one lane in the area for a couple hours as emergency crews cleared the scene.

The Evans City Volunteer Fire Department, Harmony Ambulance Service and state police responded.

At 3:10 p.m., a car driven by a woman traveling north on Saxonburg Road in Summit Township hit and sheared a utility pole and came to rest in a field with live power lines around her car and along the road.

The driver suffered minor injuries, but the accident knocked out power to about 750 West Penn Power customers.
