Redevelopment authority OKs budget, will revisit employee raises
The Butler Redevelopment Authority approved a $207,232 budget Thursday that includes pay raises for both employees, which will be revisited next month.
The 2020 budget includes $207,232 in revenue from a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and rental income, and $131,330 in operating expenses.
“We run a pretty tight ship,” said authority board member and treasurer Brian McCafferty.
Included in the expenses is $79,487 in combined salaries for Veronica Walker, acting executive director and operations manager, and Art Cordwell, rehabilitation inspector.
McCafferty said he included 3-percent pay raises for both employees in the budget.
Before getting raises this year, it had been 10 years since employees received raises, he said.
However, the board agreed to discuss the raises in executive session and vote on them at the Jan. 9 meeting because two board members were absent Thursday.
In other business, the authority awarded a $19,000 contract to Olsen Craft and Associates of Butler for engineering a street reconstruction project that will take place next summer.
Gateway Engineers submitted a $23,000 bid.
The streets in the project are Euclid Avenue, Sumner Avenue, Cottage Hill Avenue, South Main Street and Spang Avenue.
Money from the 2018 CDBG will be used to pay for the paving, Walker said.
