Man flown to Pgh. hospital after truck crashes on Route 8
CENTER TWP — A medical helicopter took a man to a hospital after he crashed his truck at about 6 p.m. Friday on Route 8.
The accident occurred about one-quarter mile north of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Department.
Multiple departments were called at about 6 p.m. after a white Chevrolet truck with a tool-rack attachment was reported over an embankment.
According to Butler County 911 transmissions, the male driver was bleeding from the head and complained of chest pain.
The initial call also said the driver was trapped in the vehicle.
Firefighters said the man did not need to be extricated from the truck.
The driver was taken by Butler Ambulance to the Unionville station, where the helicopter landed in the parking lot.
State police said the driver was conscious but believed to be in serious condition.
Police said the man was driving west on Sunset Drive and continued through the intersection. The truck went off the road, traveled over scrap along the bank and into the wooded area below.
The truck sustained heavy front-end damage as it struck multiple trees and brush during its descent past the bank. Firefighters worked alongside the road without impeding traffic to clear the crash.
Prospect and Slippery Rock firefighters also assisted at the scene.
