CABOT — Former Steelers running back Rocky Bleier will visit Concordia at Cabot at 2 p.m. Friday in the Haven I Dining Room, 112 Marwood Road, Entrance 2A.
The public is invited to the event, where the famed four-time Super Bowl champion and Vietnam veteran will speak and be available for a book-signing of his re-released autobiography “Fighting Back.”
The book will be available for purchase at $29.99 with proceeds donated to the Guardian Angel Service Dogs for military veterans.
Rocky returned to Vietnam for the first time in 50 years this past summer. His book is the story of his journey through football and fighting in the Vietnam War.
JACKSON TWP — My Dog's Care Center donated $8,251 Wednesday to the township police department's K-9 Unit.The center said it collected donations from community members and local businesses.According to information from the police department, the police canine and ongoing costs are made possible through private donations. K-9 Aron helps fight crime in the township and assists as needed with other county departments.“Aron performs narcotics, tracking, handler protection and actor apprehension,” according to the police department's literature.The center is a family owned company that started in 2006 and provides grooming, day care and boarding services for dogs.
HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has started a statewide effort to memorialize fallen employees with bridge dedications.The department plans to name bridges after PennDOT employees who died while on duty since 1970.“Our employees put their lives at risk every day to improve and maintain Pennsylvania's infrastructure,” said Leslie Richards, PennDOT secretary. “Through this initiative, we hope to permanently honor those employees who we've lost in the line of duty.”According to a news release, PennDOT hopes to acknowledge workers with the signs, which could also remind motorists to slow down in work zones.A list of the names of fallen PennDOT employees and additional information on the Traveling Worker's Memorial can be found on PennDOT's website.
