Head-on crash injures 2 drivers
WASHINGTON TWP — Both drivers were injured Friday morning in a head-on crash on Route 38, authorities said.
The collision, which took place around 6:45 a.m. at approximately 1.5 miles south of North Washington, closed a portion of the road for about two hours. Both vehicles were totaled, emergency crews said.
The drivers — Joshua K. Adamson, 20, of North Washington and John L. Nickl, 72, of Eau Claire — escaped with minor injuries. Both were wearing seat belts, state police said.
Nickl was taken by Karns City Regional Ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital. Adamson was taken by private vehicle to the same hospital.
Police said Adamson was traveling north on Route 38 in Washington Township when his Ford Escape drifted into the opposing lane and struck Nickl's southbound Ford F-150XLT.
A police report did not indicate why Adamson's vehicle crossed into the other lane, but weather conditions were not believed to be factors, authorities said. The report noted he faces a ticket for careless driving.
The accident closed the road between the village of North Washington and Bruin Road as crews waited for tow trucks to remove both vehicles.
The West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department assisted with traffic control at the scene.
