Virtuoso fiddler presents Christmas show at SRU
SLIPPERY ROCK — Virtuoso fiddler Eileen Ivers and her ensemble will present a Christmas show Friday as part of Slippery Rock University's Performing Arts and Lecture Series.
“A Joyful Christmas” will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the University Union.
Ivers interweaves traditional Irish songs, beloved American carols and even a jigging Bach.
A Grammy Award winner and Emmy nominee, Ivers has guest starred with more than 50 orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops, as well as with Sting, Hall and Oates, Patti Smith and the Chieftains.
A nine-time All-Ireland Fiddle Champion, she is one of the original musical stars of Riverdance and a founding member of the ensemble Cherish the Ladies.
Her recording credits include more than 80 contemporary and traditional albums and numerous movie scores, including music for Martin Scorsese's “Gangs of New York.” In addition, she has performed for presidents and royalty worldwide.
