Man accused of threatening roommate with screwdriver

A Butler man was arrested after he allegedly threatened a woman with a screwdriver during a domestic dispute Monday at his home, authorities said.

Wayne Edwards Sr., 61, apparently was upset because he had not received his government check earlier that day, the victim — his roommate — told officers, Butler police said.

No injuries were reported.

District Judge William Fullerton arraigned Edwards on misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats and simple assault. He was placed in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bond.

A 911 call shortly before 7:30 p.m. sent officers to the home on North Elm Street. The 63-year-old victim appeared “visibly shaken and terrified,” police said.

She recounted that Edwards was agitated “about not receiving a Social Security check,” and argued with her, according to charging documents.

The woman told police that he picked up a screwdriver and put it to her head, documents stated, telling her, “I am going to stick you.” She alleged he struck her in the face.

Police said they found the defendant “highly intoxicated” in a bedroom at the home.

Online court records did not indicate if Edwards has an attorney. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 16.
