Concert fans have many choices

There is so much seasonal music to hear, and luckily it's mostly spaced out over the course of the month of December. Enjoy!

The Butler County Symphony Orchestra will present its “Holiday Traditions” concert on Dec. 7, featuring Handel's “Messiah, Part 1” and traditional holiday pops.The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at Butler Intermediate High School auditorium in Butler Township.For tickets or more information, visit butlersymphony.org or call 724-283-1402.

The Pittsburgh Philharmonic will perform its “Holiday Pops” concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at Butler County Community College in Butler Township.The first half of the concert will feature winter wonderlands in sound from Humperdinck's fairytale “Hansel and Gretel” to the dancing toys in Tchaikovsky's iconic “Nutcracker Suite.”Plenty of caroling is also planned.Tickets are available at bc3.edu/succop-theater or by calling the box office at 724-284-8505. Tickets will also be available at the door.

The Bach Society will give a free choral concert “Tell Me Who This Child Is” on Dec. 6 and 7.Both concerts start at 7:30 p.m., and admission is free.The concert Dec. 6 will be at Center Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock and Dec. 7 at Tower Presbyterian Church in Grove City.For more information, visit www.bachsocietycommunitychoir.com.

The show “Eileen Ivers' A Joyful Christmas” will go on at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 in the University Union at Slippery Rock University.An original star of “Riverdance,” virtuoso fiddler Ivers weaves traditional Irish songs, beloved American carols and even a “jigging” Bach into this celebration of Christmas through music.For tickets or more information, visit www.sru.edu/pas or call 724-738-2616.

The Department of Music at Grove City College will present its inaugural “A Musical Christmas” holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center on campus.Musical selections will include Christmas carols and arrangements of holiday favorites such as “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” jazz editions of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and “White Christmas,” and Leroy Anderson's classic “Sleigh Ride,” by the Wind Ensemble.

The ARCA presents the following holiday events.The Pittsburgh Symphony Brass are slated to perform at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Memorial Church of Our Father in Foxburg.A Madrigal Dinner is planned at 7 p.m. Dec. 13 and 14 at the Wolf's Den Resort in Knox.And Dave Wickerham will play the “Wurlitzer Theatre Organ Christmas Spectacular” at 2 p.m. Dec. 15 at Lincoln Hall in Foxburg.Tickets are available at alleghenyriverstone.org or call 724-659-3153.

The Heinz History Center will host an Italian Holiday Concert featuring performances by Vito DiSalvo, Marco Fiorante and Daniela Pasquini Chiriac at 7 p.m. Dec. 5.Guests can enjoy an evening of Italian standards sung in both English and Italian, including “Silent Night,” “Gesu Bambino” and “Ave Maria.”Visit heinzhistorycenter.org for tickets.
