SCOUTS

Andrew Ubinger of Valencia earned Boy Scouting's highest rank when he successfully completed his Eagle Scout Board of Review in October. The son of David and Lisa Ubinger, Andrew led a team of youths and adults in presenting a Mass and recognition dinner for the altar servers of St. Catharine of Sweden Church. This project showed gratitude and thanks toward all the altar servers and their parents who volunteer their time in service to the church.

A sophomore at North Catholic High School, Ubinger has his sights set on teaching after attending the U.S. Naval Academy.

He credits his journey through the Scouting program and his faith with helping him develop the leadership skills and passion for his Eagle Scout project.

Lexi Marcotte, the daughter of Jamie and Matt Marcotte from Seneca Valley School District won the Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest recognition for achievement in Girl Scouting for girls in grades six to eight. This award recognizes girls who demonstrate — individually or as a group — extraordinary leadership through sustainable and measurable Take Action projects that address important community needs.Through a leadership project, Lexi wanted to address the issue of the Woodbine Community wanting horseshoe pits for the neighborhood. As a part of her Silver Award project, she worked with the Woodbine Homeowners' Association to build horseshoe pits. She chose the safest style to make sure the neighborhood could have fun without getting hurt. She bought the materials. The horseshoe pits were then installed. As a Girl Scout member for eight years, she was supported in her Silver Award efforts by Tim Richart and the Woodbine HOA.
