12:57 a.m. Nov. 12 — John R. Gould Sr., 60, of Butler, was allegedly caught with a syringe following a traffic stop at Shore Street and Lincoln Avenue. Police said he was pulled over for driving a car with an invalid license plate.
An inventory search of the car turned up a capped syringe in the back pocket of the front passenger seat, according to court documents. Gould is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and the license plate violation.
12:53 a.m. Nov. 9 — Joshua D. Norris, 34, of Butler, was arrested for driving under the influence after police were called for a fight on the 400 block of East Jefferson Street. Police said Norris was backing up in a car when they stopped him.
During their investigation, police learned that before he was stopped, the defendant had shoved an older woman to the ground. A breath test subsequently showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.127 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.
In addition to DUI, Norris is charged with disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and driving with a suspended license.
Tuesday — Police have asked for the public's help in finding Steven R. Brown, 52, of Butler, who is wanted in the alleged assault of a woman about 11:38 a.m. Nov. 8 on Vogel Road. The victim refused medical treatment.An arrest warrant was issued for Brown on charges of simple assault and harassment. Anyone with information of his whereabouts is asked to call police at 724-284-8100, or 911.Tuesday — Police charged Jamie J. Mellish, 39, of Butler, with felony shoplifting stemming from the June 28 theft of a computer, valued at $399, from the Walmart at Butler Commons. Mellish, who has at least five prior shoplifting convictions, is charged with a felony count of retail theft.
Nov. 12 — Michelle M. Hays, 53, of Butler, was arrested on charges she illegally attempted to transfer two 9 mm pistols at a Summit Township store earlier this year.Police said Hays gave inaccurate information on her application March 18 when she tried to transfer the firearms at Sportsman’s Supply on Route 356. She is charged with unlawful sale or transfer of firearms, a felony, and unsworn falsification to authorities, a misdemeanor.5:14 p.m. Nov. 10 — An Ohio man allegedly drove away after the pickup truck he was driving struck three mailboxes attached atop a post on the 300 block of Mahood Road in Center Township. Joshua J. Costlow, 35, of Boardman, was later identified and charged with hit-and-run, driving on the wrong side of the road, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.11:18 a.m. Nov. 1 — SUVs driven by Joanna Lawson, 83, of Butler, and Curtis A. Handlovic, 34, of Slippery Rock, collided at Route 8 and Route 308 in Center Township. Handlovic’s vehicle had to be towed.
