Butler HOF adding 4 more
BUTLER TWP — The Butler Area School District Athletic Hall of Fame will enshrine four more individuals Jan. 3, prior to the Golden Tornado's girls-boys home basketball doubleheader against North Hills.
Jared Farabee, Jason Cherry, Bill Fay and the late Calvin Littlejohn will be inducted during a 6 p.m. reception in the high school cafeteria. The Hall of Fame began in 2010 and these additions will increase its individual membership to 63.
The 1998 girls track team and 2001 boys 4x800 relay team were also inducted last year.
Here is a look at this year's inductees:
Jared Farabee
A 1998 Butler graduate, Farabee was a standout football player and pole vaulter for the Golden Tornado. He went on to play football and compete in the pole vault at South Carolina.
Farabee set the Butler indoor and outdoor pole vault records of 15 feet and 15-5 feet, respectively. He was two-time WPIAL pole vault champion and was an all-conference defensive back in high school.
He stands fourth on the all-time pole vault list at South Carolina.
Farabee's father, longtime Tornado football and track coach Mark Farabee, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2014
Jason Cherry
A 1998 Butler graduate, Cherry was arguably the best place-kicker in Butler football history.
He was a three-time all-conference kicker, connecting on 60 of 70 PATs and 16 of 20 field goal attempts for the Golden Tornado. He led the WPIAL in scoring among kickers with 55 points in 1997.
Cherry went on to kick for three years at the University of Massachusetts, winning a national championship there. He also kicked in arena football for seven years.
Bill Fay
A 1959 Butler graduate, Fay became Butler's first-ever bowling coach and put together a 40-0 record with the girls team through his four seasons. He coached the Butler girls to a state championship.
Butler's boys bowling team was 36-4 under Fay's tutelage.
Fay is also one of the best bowlers in Butler County history. He has rolled eight sanctioned 300 games, four 299 games and has an 843 series, one of the highest in county history.
Calvin Littlejohn
A 2004 Butler graduation, Littlejohn died in 2016 after a nine-year battle with lupus.
He was a four-year letterman and a 1,000-yard rusher in football for the Golden Tornado, playing in the NAFCA All-Star Game his senior year. He was also a four-year letterman in track and basketball.
Littlejohn was a WPIAL champion in the long jump and set the school record in that event. He also ranks among the top three in school history in the triple jump and high jump.
