PINEHURST, N.C. — The Butler County Community College women’s volleyball team won its first match at the Mid-Atlantic District Tournament, but dropped the next two to end its season at 19-5.

The Pioneers defeated Patrick Henry CC of Martinsville, Va., 3-1. Morgan Malinski had 41 assists, Maddy McAninch 37 digs and Abby Kopac nine kills. Makenzie McDowell added 23 digs and 17 kills.

Defending national champion Owens CC (Ohio) defeated BC3 3-0, then Columbus State CC scored a 3-0 win over the Pioneers.
