Make sure you vote Tuesday

Tuesday is Election Day. Make sure you vote.

Voting is one of the most important rights and responsibilities that U.S. citizens have.

About 150 million American citizens are qualified to vote. Unfortunately, many don’t.

Don’t use the excuse that your vote does not count.

Richard Nixon, not John F. Kennedy, would have become president of the United States in 1960 if one person from each voting site had voted differently.

If you don’t vote, you give up on a chance to choose leaders and representatives who will do things that are important to you.

By voting, you have the power to decide on the quality of life you want for yourself and future generations.

Voting is your chance to stand up for the issues you care about.

Take some time to learn about the measures and the candidates. If you don’t vote, someone else will make the decision for you. Your power is in your vote.

If personal independence is important to you, then voting should be too.

The Declaration of Independence was as much about personal liberties as anything else. Preserve that right.

Voter turnout in Pennsylvania for the 2018 midterm election was one for the books, with more registered voters casting ballots in each of the state’s 67 counties than in previous midterm cycles.

Statewide 58 percent of registered voters cast ballots on Nov. 6, 2018.

Primary election turnout in most areas of Pennsylvania doesn’t exceed 20 percent of the electorate — and of that dismal number, perhaps a quarter of voters will have some knowledge about who is seeking these posts or will reasonably understand the functions performed by the officeholders.

Elections have consequences. Your vote really does matter.

Vote because it is the right thing to do.

When there is no voting, there is no democracy. Want to live in a dictatorship?

In Pennsylvania, the polls will open at 7 a.m. Tuesday and close at 8 p.m. State law requires everyone be allowed to vote as long as they’re in line before polls close.

Make sure your voice is heard — vote.
