SPECTATORS ROUGHED UP
An inspired Butler High School football team knocked Beaver Falls’ Tigers from the unbeaten ranks last night in Reeves Stadium in Beaver Falls, 14-12.
The upset victory was a highlight of grid action involving district teams last night. In other play, Union decisioned Clarion, 24-20, in a Little Nine headliner, Kittanning handed Freeport its first lost, 20-6, and Brookville ruined Moniteau’s homecoming, 12-0.
The sweetness of the Golden Tornado victory over Beaver Falls was marred by some bitterness following the game, when several Butler youngsters were reportedly roughed up by Tiger fans.
Most severely hurt, and removed by ambulance, to a Beaver Falls hospital, was Cindy Rossellini, 16, of 110 Covewood Drive. She was treated at United Hospital for head and neck injuries, and released.
She was reportedly bumped into by two fighting boys while she was boarding a bus.
A member of the BHS Sequinettes, and several other girls reportedly were shoved or struck. One girl was said to have been hit in the mouth, chipping a tooth and causing a slight laceration.
Despite the hard feelings after the rugged football clash, it was a glorious victory for the Golden Tornado. (Details on Sports Pages.)
