Butler trooper to get Top Gun Award
Trooper Philip Treadway of Troop D, Butler, is being recognized for his commitment to DUI enforcement.
Treadway is among a number of troopers and local police officers statewide to be honored Thursday with the coveted Top Gun Award at the Pennsylvania DUI Association’s 40th annual meeting at the Sheraton Station Square in Pittsburgh.
“Impaired driving is a serious crime that puts people at risk every day,” Col. Robert Evanchick, commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police, said in congratulating this year’s recipients.
“The dedicated enforcement efforts of these men and women help keep our roads safe,” he said, “and sends the message that impaired driving is not tolerated in the commonwealth.”
C. Stephen Erni, president of the Pennsylvania DUI Association, a nonprofit professional association, also praised the work of the award winners.
“We expect a great deal from our law enforcement officers. We ask them to be a counselor, teacher, medical technician, social worker, psychologist, mentor and negotiator, and then we expect them to enforce the laws,” he said. “Law enforcement officers in Pennsylvania deserve a thank you for the work in reducing the threat of impaired drivers on our roadways.”
In receiving the award, Treadway and the other law enforcement officers will receive their own portable breath test equipment to assist them with future DUI arrests.
Among this year’s other recipients are Troopers Thomas Dubovi Jr. and Nickolas Elliott and Cpl. Christopher Robbins, all of Troop D, Kittanning; Troopers Sherry Hogue and Montana Trombetta, both of Troop D, Beaver; Trooper Travis Kauffman, Troop D, Mercer; and Patrolman Jason Bennett, Grove City Police Department.
