SRU's faculty, guest artist dance concert set Sunday

Dancers from Slippery Rock University will present the faculty and guest artist concert in two shows Sunday at the Succop Theater.
Performances will be held at BC3's Succop

The Department of Dance at Slippery Rock University will stage the Faculty and Guest Artist Dance Concert on Sunday at the Succop Theater at Butler County Community College.

Performances will begin at 2 and 6:30 p.m.

This dance concert features work by faculty and staff, including Ursula Payne, Lindsay Fisher Viatori, Andy Hasenpflug, Jennifer Keller, Jaya Mani and Jesse Factor.

This year's concert will also feature two alumni, Maddison Manolis and Alison Vitale, the artistic directors of MVment Dance Company, who return to perform their latest duet.

The Afro-Colombian Dance Ensemble, under the artistic direction of dance faculty member Melissa Teodoro, will feature a new dance created by guest artist Luis Fernando Trouchon.

Payne and Viatori will perform a duet to an original composition and live music by Hasenpflug, featuring wearable art sailcloths designed and constructed by art professor Heather Hertel and guest artist Ann Groenendaal.

Keller worked with film director and choreographer Marta Renzi, whose dance films have won international awards. And Mani, classical Indian dance specialist, will present a solo featuring the dance style Bharatanatyam.

Jesse Factor will present his original choreography, as well as a dance reconstruction featuring the choreography of icon Martha Graham.

The dance, titled “Celebration” and created in 1934, is a minimalist study of joy featuring clear, forceful gestures full of angularities and athleticism.

Additional guest artists featured on the concert include Francine Ott, North Carolina State dance program dance lecturer and artistic director of the Panoramic Dance Project, and Grady McLeod Bowman, a NYC-based choreographer.

Tickets are available by calling 724-738-4926, or at the door on the day of the performance.
