Knoch girls tennis in WPIAL finals

SR golfer Wolak joins PIAA tourney

Knoch earned a 4-1 victory over Beaver Tuesday in the WPIAL Class 2A girls tennis team semifinals at Seneca Valley High School.

Laura Greb, Brooke Bauer and Ally Bauer each earned victories in singles play while Libby Conlon and Jadyn Brown teamed up for a doubles win.

The Knights will face two-time defending district champion Sewickley Academy in the championship at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at North Allegheny High School.

Slippery Rock freshman Jacob Wolak carded a 77 in the western regional Tuesday at Tom's Run in Blairsville. He qualified for the PIAA Championships, set for Oct. 21-22 at Heritage Hills in York.Wolak placed 11th out of 44 golfers and becomes the third Rocket golfer in history to qualify for the PIAA. He is the second freshman to do so, joining Brett Rinker.

Brooke Stahlman scored four goals and added an assist as Karns City shut out Punxsutawney, 12-0.Emma Dailey added three goals and an assist as the Gremlins remained undefeated. Mckenna Martin had a goal and three assists, Alexis Moore two goals and two assists.Chloe Lineman and Cameron Roofner scored single tallies. Rossi McMillen had the shutout in goal.Karns City plays Thursday at Fort LeBouf.Slippery Rock 7, Sharon 0 — Tory Hinchberger scored twice for the Rockets, who will open District 10 playoff action Saturday.Kayla Daugherty, Emily Raine, Amanda Lewis, Hannah Burtner and Isabelle Willison all scored goals Tuesday.

Tiffany Madison had 15 kills and three blocks as Slippery Rock defeated Franklin 3-0. Scores were 25-21, 28-26, 25-18.Virginia Recchia had 24 assists, Annika Peale six kills, eight digs and 11 service points, Taylor Balint 21 digs and seven service points.Freeport 3, Apollo-Ridge 0 — Maddie Clark had 17 service points, 14 assists and two kills for the unbeaten Yellowjackets (13-0, 11-0) in this 25-11, 25-3, 25-10 win.Lauren Lampus had nine kills and five service points, Isabella Russo five kills and eight service points, Sam Clark six kills.Freeport hosts Deer Lakes Thursday.Moniteau 3, Karns City 1 — Aslyn Pry had a monster night with 27 kills to help the Warriors prevail by scores of 25-22, 25-27, 25-13 and 25-21.Samantha Broerman added seven kills and four blocks, Ivie Scott four kills and Logan Barnhart dished out a lofty 43 assists.For the Gremlins, Emily Huff dropped 12 kills, Mackenzie Dunn had 17 digs, Ashley Fox 22 digs and Peyton Turner 19 assists.Butler 3, Fox Chapel 0 — Taylor Welter had a solid night with 15 kills, Ava Carney offered up 14 kills and 13 digs and Hailey Metzger contributed 27 assists.The Golden Tornado won their third section match of the season by scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-23.Knoch 3, Lincoln Park 0 — Skylar Burkett and Kennedy Christy had nine and seven kills, respectively, as the Knights (16-0, 13-0) cruised to this 25-9, 25-11, 25-17 victory.A-C Valley 3, Union 0 — The Falcons dominated the Damsels by scores of 25-17, 25-7 and 25-5.Senior Emily Wetzel led the Falcons (14-1) with 21 service points, 17 digs and 10 assists.Hannah Farrington added 13 points and seven digs, Mia Sherman 12 points and seven kills and Meah Ielase nine digs and six kills.Tarra Stefanacci came up with 14 digs in the win.A-C Valley also won the junior varsity match, 2-0.
