Cranberry artists group opens exhibit Saturday

CRANBERRY TWP — The Cranberry Artists Network present an exhibit by Marcy Bogdanich and Joan Stossel Pun for the month of October in the Back Hall Gallery and Showcase at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center.

A reception is planned for 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Bogdanich, a Mars resident and treasurer for the Cranberry Artists Network, will display her humorous sculptures in the Showcase.

She said that in college she was influenced by the box art of Joseph Cornell.

“Since then, some form of mixed media art in a box has been a favorite way of expressing myself,” she said. “An even bigger influence on my work is my love of really bad puns, silliness and drawings and works that make me laugh. The results of combining humor and box art can be seen in the display case at the Cranberry Township Municipal Building.”

Her taught art for Hampton Township School District for 28 years. “Laughter and humor are a big part of my life and I so enjoy creating things that make me laugh,” Bogdanich said. “Here's hoping you will laugh with me.”

Pun will be exhibiting her artwork in the Back Hall Gallery. She said she has been painting or drawing all her life. Although largely self-taught, she did study under several well-known watercolor and oil artists in Lima, Peru, where she lived for 48 years before retiring to Cranberry.

She has been in quite a few collective exhibitions and had several individual showings in Lima and in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She has won prizes for her batiks.

Pun enjoys traveling around the world and often does paintings from the sites she has visited.

The exhibits will continue through Oct. 31 at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center, 2525 Rochester Road.
