Big plays help Karns City roll past St. Marys
SAINT MARYS — Karns City spoiled St. Marys' Homecoming by defeating the Dutchmen 55-20 Friday night.
The Gremlins were able to take a 19-6 halftime lead then outscored the Dutchmen 36-14 in the second half to win the game.
The Dutch offense was led by Christian Coudriet who was 17 of 28 for 343 yards and two interceptions. Jake Kline 51 yards on 13 carries. Bryce Walker was the leading receiver with 164 yards on eight catches.
Karns City was led by Hunter Rowe who gained 115 yards on 16 carries. Luke Garing added 88 yards on 13 carries and quarterback Anthony Kamenski picked up 77 yards on 13 carries and was also 3-of-9 passing for 155 yards with one interception.
The Dutch struck first when Coudriet found Walker on a 49-yard pass play for 6-0 lead with 6:26 left in the first quarter.
Karns City responded with a 12-play drive, capped by a 1-yard TD run by Luke Garing to tie the score at 6-6.
The Gremlins struck quickly on their next score.
Kamenski found Kaden Scherer on a 77-yard pass play as the Gremlins took a 13-6 lead.
Kamenski struck again on a long scoring pass, finding Scherer for a 56-yard touchdown and a 19-6 lead with 3:12 left in the half.
The Gremlins took the second half kickoff and marched 59 yards for a touchdown. Hunter Rowe scored from a yard out making the score 26-6 with 10:37 left in the third quarter.
Karns City's Austin Brown picked off a Dutch pass at the 20 top set up the Gremlins' next score. Four plays later, Garing plowed in from the 1 for a 32-6 lead.
The Dutch answered when Coudriet found Logan Mosier for a 22-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 34-12.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Kamenski scrambled 19 yards for a touchdown to make it 41-12.
St. Marys, though, kept the pressure up.
Coudriet hit Kline for a 20-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 41-20 with 8:03 remaining.
Karns City, though, scored the final two touchdowns — Kamenski on a 40-yard run and Jayce Anderson ona 40-yard interception return for a score.
